Lauryn Hill is being sued by her Fugees bandmate Pras Michel, who claims she defrauded him during their shortened 2023 tour and is responsible for the cancellation of their planned 2024 tour due to “gross mismanagement.” The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan federal court, alleges that Hill took advantage of Michel’s legal troubles to pressure him into signing a deal that mainly benefited her.

Michel’s attorneys argue that Hill’s actions were a deceptive tactic that enriched her at the cost of her long-time friend. The lawsuit also points to the sudden cancellation of the 2024 tour, which Michel blames on Hill’s delays and poor marketing efforts, resulting in disappointing ticket sales. In her defence, Hill denied the claims, stating that she secured a $3 million advance for Michel to help with his legal fees, which he has yet to repay. She described the lawsuit as unfounded and mentioned that Michel had previously received financial assistance from her.

The lawsuit further contends that Hill misrepresented the financial terms, claiming she took 40 percent of the tour revenue before sharing the rest with the band members. Michel also alleges that Hill misled Live Nation about his commitment to the 2024 tour.

The lawsuit seeks a court ruling to nullify the 2023 agreement and demands an accounting of the tour finances. Additionally, Michel’s legal team raised other complaints, including Hill’s tardiness in performances and her refusal of a lucrative Coachella offer, arguing that these decisions favoured her interests over those of her bandmate.
