A Manhattan federal judge has denied Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request for bail ahead of his sex trafficking and racketeering trial, citing concerns over his “propensity for violence” and risk of witness tampering. Combs’ legal team had proposed a $50 million bond with house arrest and strict restrictions, but prosecutors argued that his behaviour from jail—allegedly attempting to interfere with the investigation—demonstrated that he would continue such efforts if released.

Judge Arun Subramanian agreed with the prosecution, stating that no conditions could guarantee community safety or prevent Combs from obstructing justice. He highlighted evidence of Combs initiating contact with a witness and violating jail protocols since his September arrest. The judge also referenced a legal precedent stating that wealthy defendants should not be released on bail to private jails.

Combs is facing charges related to orchestrating a criminal operation to satisfy his sexual desires, including allegations of drugging and coercing victims during “freak off” parties. If convicted, he faces a potential life sentence. The trial is set for May 5, 2024.

Earlier, Judge Andrew L. Carter had also denied bail, citing concerns over witness safety and obstruction risks. Combs’ legal team has indicated plans to appeal the decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals. Until then, he will remain in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
