Nicki Minaj is facing a lawsuit from Brandon Garrett, who claims the rapper assaulted him after a concert in Detroit on April 21, 2024. Garrett, Minaj’s day-to-day manager for the Pink Friday 2 tour, alleges that he was physically attacked backstage at Little Caesars Arena following a confrontation with Minaj and her former manager, Deb Antney.
According to the lawsuit, the altercation began when Garrett was accused of having another tour employee, Luke Montgomery, pick up Minaj’s prescriptions on his behalf. When Garrett explained that he was unavailable at the time, Minaj allegedly became enraged. She reportedly yelled at Garrett, threatening his life and calling him incompetent. When Montgomery failed to provide the requested details about the prescriptions, Minaj allegedly demanded to see his phone and continued to berate Garrett.
The complaint states that Minaj then struck Garrett in the face and wrist, causing injury. Garrett claims he was so fearful for his safety that he locked himself in a restroom for hours. Later, he was informed he wouldn’t be allowed to travel with the tour and was left stranded. Garrett eventually sought police assistance in Chicago and Detroit due to concerns for his safety.
Garrett is suing for assault, battery, and emotional distress, seeking both punitive and general damages. Minaj’s attorney has denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit “false and frivolous.”
