A lawsuit accusing DJ Diplo of sharing “revenge porn” was dropped after a judge ruled the plaintiff must reveal her identity to proceed. The accuser, identified as “Jane Doe,” alleged Diplo (Thomas Wesley Pentz) secretly recorded sexual encounters without her consent and shared them on Snapchat. Her attorneys requested the case be dismissed “without prejudice,” allowing for potential refiling.

The dismissal followed Judge Mónica Ramírez Almadani’s decision that the plaintiff must publicly disclose her name, citing the need for transparency in public trials. The judge acknowledged the sensitive nature of the allegations but found insufficient legal grounds for anonymity. Doe’s attorneys initially pledged to appeal, arguing that revealing her identity could link her to her trauma permanently. The status of an appeal remains unclear.

Filed in June, the lawsuit accused Diplo of violating the federal Violence Against Women Act and California’s revenge porn laws. Doe claimed she had a consensual relationship with the DJ from 2016 to 2023, during which she occasionally consented to recording but later discovered unauthorised footage was shared online. The suit sought damages for emotional and physical harm and aimed to prevent similar violations.

Diplo’s attorneys, who previously denied the allegations as an “obvious shakedown attempt,” did not comment on the dismissal. The case’s withdrawal coincides with Diplo resolving another legal dispute with Shelly Auguste, who had accused him of sexual misconduct. That case involved mutual allegations, including claims of stalking and revenge porn.
